Chesapeake Bach resident Stephen Louis Betz pleaded guilty this week to first-degree assault and reckless endangerment stemming from an incident that was reported in Owings last fall, authorities announced on Tuesday.

On Sept. 10, 2023, Betz and two other unidentified men broke into the home and confronted them about alleged stolen medication.

An argument broke out, and one of the men pulled out a weapon. The dispute then spilled outside the residence, where shots were fired, with one victim struck, as well as a neighboring house.

Investigators determined that Betz brought the gunman to the scene in an effort to collect money that he thought was owed to him.

When he is sentenced in September, Betz will face up to 25 years in prison.
